Neurofeedback sessions has been proven to be one of the best methods to assist the brain in creating new neuro-pathways. It is an inside out approach that is often life changing and can benefit everyone. For the brain, it is like looking into a mirror. Imagine that you are walking through a mall and you catch your reflection in a mirror, until you saw yourself you were unaware of the fact that you hair might be a mess or your tie is crooked. In that moment you have a change to adjust yourself. This is also true for the brain. As the brain "sees itself" it can make the adjustments needed to bring itself into balance. The process of the brain seeing itself in the mirror is very soothing and most people get deeply relaxed. These deep relaxation allows the brain so bring itself into balance.
During the first few sessions, the brain will allow newly created pathways to dominate for a period of time – 24 to 48 hours – and then the older more established pathway will usually return. It is closer to the end of the series that the brain patterns have had an opportunity to gain dominance and the newly created pathway have an opportunity to extend itself more fully and more quickly than in the beginning.
When working with adults, we typically do 7 – 2 hour sessions. You can choose to do 1 or 2 sessions each day with the intention of completing the series within 4 – 10 days.
When working with children we spread 12 one hour sessions over 3 week period. Ideally, we would like to do 4 or 5 sessions in a row and then have a gap before continuing with more sessions. This of course is just a starting point depending on the client and availability.
